Impact Maiava had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in his third start of the season. The redshirt sophomore was still inefficient and played rather erratically while throwing a season-high 48 passes. This was on full display when he tossed back-to-back pick-sixes on the goal line during the fourth quarter, including one that was returned 99 yards and another that was returned 100 yards for Notre Dame touchdowns. Maiava moved the ball back down the field and threw his third passing touchdowns of the game when he hit wideout Ja'Kobi Lane for an eight-yard score with 13 seconds remaining. The signal-caller kept the Trojans in it for most of the game, but he ultimately cost the team a chance to win with these two crucial mistakes. Maiava completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 840 yards while scoring touchdowns 10 total touchdowns and committing four turnovers over the final three games of the regular season. He will likely remain under center for USC's upcoming bowl game.
