Impact Wright has been upping his level of practice participation in recent days after suffering a quadriceps injury earlier in fall camp. "Today he was able to do a little bit more than he was a couple of days ago, so I think and feel confident that [Wright] will be ready by the time we enter the first game," Mack said Tuesday. Jabari Small seems to be the top option in the Volunteer backfield but players like Wright as well as freshmen Dylan Sampson and Justin Williams-Thomas will factor into the mix as well. Tennessee opens the season Sept. 1 against Ball State.

Impact Wright was active at practice for the second day in a row. The 5-foot-11 sophomore wasn't in pads, and he didn't participate any 11-on-11 work with the team yet. Wright appears to be getting healthier, but his availability for the season opener isn't certain yet. The sophomore running back totaled 409 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 85 attempts, along with six receptions for 22 yards in 2021.
