Undergoes surgery Thursday Emery (knee) underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL Thursday, Scott Rabalais of The Baton Rouge Advocate reports.

Impact Emery had surgery on his torn ACL Thursday, an ACL that he tore in practice on Tuesday. It's his second straight season that has ended with a torn ACL, as he tore his right ACL last November. It's a rough end to the season for the former five-star recruit, but because it happened so early in the season he should presumably be ready for next season, if he chooses to return.

Impact This is a brutal blow for Emery and LSU's offense. The tailback battled his way back from an injury this offseason and appeared to have put himself in position to play a big part in the Tigers' offense. In the opener against USC, he looked excellent, running for 61 yards on 10 carries and showing some burst. Now, his season will be cut abruptly short. This likely means more carries for tailback Ty'son Edwards moving forward.

Impact Separate injuries limited Emery during 2023, but a knee problem proved to be the defining factor in his latest season. After a brief entry into the NCAA's transfer portal, Emery withdrew from it less than two months and took around that time to heal from his knee injury. Before there was 2023, the running back had an excellent 2022, during which he logged more than 500 scrimmage yards and exactly eight touchdowns across his 11 games. Perhaps he can replicate all that output during 2024, though the emergence of current sophomore Kaleb Jackson may complicate matters.

By contrast, Emery recorded over 500 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns during 2022.

Impact Emery didn't see too much work in LSU's blowout win over Auburn, but he certainly made the most of it. He averaged a healthy 7.0 yards-per-carry and turned his only reception into a massive 49-yard gain. Emery is still second-fiddle to Logan Diggs at tailback, but he's been the more explosive back as of late.
