Big day on the ground Salter went 12-for-20 for 140 yards, tow touchdowns, and one interception against MTSU on Tuesday. He also ran 16 times for 160 yards.

Impact Head coach Jamey Caldwell loves a quarterback who can run, and Salter now has gone over 500 yards on the ground. His passing yards aren't eye popping, he's been held under 200 yards four times, but his 16 passing scores against three picks stand out for the undefeated Flames.

Dominates Flames stats in bowl loss Salter finished with 147 of the Liberty's 253 total yards in the 21-19 loss to Toledo in the Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 20.

Impact The freshman signal-caller had more impact on the ground with 10 attempts for 63 yards while completing 12-of-20 pass attempts for only 84 yards in the air and a touchdown. It wasn't known until the first offensive play who would be under center for Liberty in the bowl game. Salter was always considered the future quarterback for the Flames under former head coach Hugh Freeze. Salter could be considered the favorite for the starting job in 2023, but with new head coach, Jamey Chadwell, nothing is set in stone.

Impact Salter has been out the last few weeks with the ankle injury. The team ultimately decided that opting for surgery was the best option. The prospects of Salter being able to return this season don't look great at this point. Johnathan Bennett will continue to start.

Removed late in win over Monarchs Salter, who missed the previous game against Akron with an ankle injury, was removed late in Saturday's 38-24 Liberty win at Old Dominion.

Impact Liberty coach Hugh Freeze told The News and Advance that they removed Salter since they noticed that the redshirt freshman had little mobility on the field and was still suffering from the ankle injury. Salter completed 10-of-19 pass attempts for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He was also intercepted twice and sacked twice. Jonathan Bennett replaced Salter under center and led a 99-yard scoring drivein the fourth quarter that clinched the contest. Salter is questionable for the Saturday, Oct. 8 game at Massachusetts. Liberty might hold back Salter another week since they go up against a 1-4 Minutemen team whose only win came against Subdivision Stony Brook.
