Impact Jennings was SMU's top quarterback in Week 2, pacing presumed starter Preston Stone in every category. This is certainly an interesting development in Dallas. While Stone still tossed for two touchdowns, Jennings threw five more passes and showed off his legs with 54 yards on the ground and one score. Head coach Rhett Lashlee is clearly enamored with Jennings' athleticism, and he may be well on his way to supplanting Stone as the lead signal caller for the Mustangs.

Impact Jennings only threw five passes in Saturday's win against the Wolfpack, but he was inserted into the game after starter Preston Stone struggled to ignite the SMU offense after several drives. An excellent athlete with a big arm, Jennings adds another dimension to the Mustangs' offense when he's on the field. Regardless, his performance didn't blow anyone away, and Stone would return to the game and ultimately throw the game-winning touchdown. Stone still figures to start moving forward, but the SMU coaching staff clearly has a lot of confidence in Jennings' ability to step into a game and contribute.

Impact At least for Saturday, Jennings will receive some opportunities to work behind SMU's starting quarterback Preston Stone. The former showed some upside around his 2023 season's conclusion, which including him logging 24 completions for 191 yards and one touchdown during a bowl game. While his statistical output at Nevada is expected to be limited, perhaps some positives can come from his 2024 debut.

Named starter vs Tulane Head coach Rhett Lashlee indicated Monday that Jennings will start in Saturday's matchup against Tulane, Guerry Smith of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Impact With starting quarterback Preston Stone (leg) out for the season, Jennings will start under center for the Mustangs. The 6-foot signal-caller has completed 18 of 24 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns this season.
