Now vying for backup job Head coach Ryan Day announced Saturday that C.J. Stroud will be the team's starting quarterback for the opener against Minnesota on Sept. 2, Bill Landis of The Athletic reports. Impact McCord had been in a three-way battle for the top job with Stroud and Jack Miller, however, Day mentioned earlier in the week that Stroud had begun to separate himself from the others in the competition. Day has remained put about announcing who will be Stroud's top backup as McCord and Miller will continue to butt heads for the position.
