ImpactThe Aggies are relying on the run game early, because Parker Awad isn't cutting it at quarterback. McGown, a four-star recruit at Oklahoma forever ago by college standards, seems to have stepped in as the best back NMSU has. Through two games he has averaged 5.9 yards per carry and notched three TDs.

Parker Awad - Totals three TDs, but strugglesAwad went 9-for-22 for 158 yards and two touchdowns against Liberty on Saturday. He also ran for a touchdown.

ImpactThree touchdowns is good! Here are a few things that are not good. One, completing 40.9 percent of your passes. Two, totaling minus-20 yards on the ground. Three, losing a fumble. Awad was a disaster in NMSU's opener, so don't get too enthusiastic about three scores.

Billy Lucas - Rushes for 23 yardsLucas ran eight times for 23 yards and had one catch for 18 yards Saturday versus NMSU.

ImpactThis is a step down after Lucas managed 78 yards and a touchdown on the ground against Campbell in Liberty's opener. He has three catches, though, and has clearly established himself as the number-two back for the Flames. This is an offense that tore it up on the ground in 2023, so that's not a bad role to be in.
