Jayden Daniels - Strains back Saturday LSU coach Brian Kelly said that Daniels strained his lower back during Saturday's 38-0 win over New Mexico, Wilson Alexander of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Impact Daniels initially appeared to suffer a head injury after being tackled hard to the ground Saturday, but he now seems to be dealing with a minor lower back strain according to Kelly. The Tigers' head coach added that the junior could have returned, but that it was unnecessary given wide scoring margin by that point of the game. Daniels' next opportunity to play will come on the road against Auburn in Week 5; otherwise, freshman Garrett Nussmeier will step in under center for LSU.

Brian Thomas - Returns Saturday Thomas (undisclosed) returned to Saturday's game against New Mexico, Steve Virgen of the Albuquerque Journal reports.

Impact Thomas temporarily exited after sustaining an undisclosed injury against the Lobos. However, he was ultimately able to step back in and haul in a 57-yard receiving touchdown to put the Tigers up 38-0 in the fourth quarter.

The starting signal-caller was tended to by multiple members of the Tigers' training staff before being taken to the medical tent on the team's sideline. Daniels completed 24 of his 29 passes for 279 yards while adding 37 yards on nine carries before exiting Saturday's game. With Walker Howard set to redshirt, freshman Garrett Nussmeier will step in as LSU's lone remaining quarterback for the time being.
