Minimal production in first start Van Buren Jr. was 12-for-23 passing for 144 yards during Saturday's 35-13 defeat versus Texas. He also had 12 rushes for -14 yards with one touchdown. Impact Van Buren started under center for the first time in his collegiate career, filling in for starter Blake Shapen (shoulder). The true freshman managed to complete just over half of his passes but finished with less than 150 yards albeit against a tough opponent. The next challenge for the young signal-caller will be just as tough as he faces Georgia on the road on Oct. 12.
