Nathan Carter - Logs season low in carries Carter tallied 11 carries for 44 yards and hauled in five of six targets for nine yards during Saturday's 27-12 loss to Minnesota.

Impact Carter logged fewer than 17 carries for the first time this season as the Spartans offense completely sputtered in this loss. The redshirt sophomore running back has now struggled with his efficiency over each of the past three weeks, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry over this span. Graduate senior Jaren Mangham was the team's only other running back to log any carries in this contest with one, so it's likely that this limited rushing output was a symptom of their anaemic offense. Carter did match his season high for receptions, and he's now caught 17 of 26 passes through eight games in 2023.

Noah Kim - Working through injury Michigan State coach Harlon Barnett indicated Monday that Kim (undisclosed) is still a few weeks away from his return to the field, Matt Wenzel of MLive.com reports.

Impact Barnett also indicates the injury seems to be more serious than what Kim originally indicated. The nature of the injury is still not yet disclosed and in his absence, Katin Houser has taken starting reps but has been reported to be in a competition with Sam Leavitt for Saturday's matchup against Nebraska.

Katin Houser - Competing for starting position Michigan State coach Harlon Barnett indicated Monday that Houser is in competition for the starting job with Sam Leavitt, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact The redshirt freshman quarterback has played at least 40 snaps in the last three games, completing 57.5 percent of his passes for 354 yards go along with two touchdowns and one interception. More news will surface in regards to who will get the starting job as the week progresses.

Sam Leavitt - Competing to be starting QB Leavitt could be Michigan State's starting quarterback Saturday against Nebraska, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact The quarterback position has been a problem for Michigan State in recent weeks, with Noah Kim (undisclosed) injured and Katin Houser ineffective. As a result, Leavitt was inserted under center midway through Saturday's 27-12 loss to Minnesota, completing eight of 12 passes for 73 yards and one touchdown to one interception. Thus, MSU's head coach Harlon Bennett said Monday that QB is "still competition mode" between the latter and Leavitt.
