Declares for NFL Draft Carter has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to his announcement Friday.

Impact Carter will forgo his last year of collegiate eligibility for the NFL. The running back began his career as part of UConn's 2021 team, which got at least 700 all-purpose yards and multiple touchdowns from him. 2022 was his worst year, in which he redshirted and still logged 400-plus rushing yards with a touchdown. Transferring to Michigan State was how he got his shine. 2023 saw Carter record his career high in carries (185) and rushing yards (four). While those dipped in 2024, he logged a career-high seven touchdowns (five rushing and two receiving) across 12 games. Ideally for Carter, all that relatively consistent production will be enough to get him selected by an NFL team.

Finds end zone in season finale Carter tallied seven carries for 47 yards and one touchdown and caught all three targets for 23 yards during Saturday's 41-14 loss to Rutgers.

Impact Carter found the end zone on a 26-yard scamper in the first quarter to open up the scoring on the day. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they would not score again until late in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand in favor of the Scarlet Knights. The redshirt junior running back has been a decent contributor for the Spartans in 2024, running for 499 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games as part of a committee with Kayron Lynch-Adams. With the team remaining ineligible for bowl season, Carter will have to wait until the 2025 season for his next chance to suit up for the Spartans, barring a decision to transfer or enter the NFL Draft.

Scores twice in victory Carter accrued nine carries for 15 yards and one touchdown and caught all two targets for 32 yards and one touchdown during Friday's 24-17 victory against Purdue.

Impact Despite having an inefficient game while being out-carried by fellow running back Kayron Lynch-Adams 19-8 on the day, Carter produced a pair of touchdowns to salvage the day as the Spartans escaped a late comeback by Purdue. The redshirt junior running back found the end zone on a two-yard run and a 20-yard pass, both in the second quarter, extending the Spartans' large first half lead. Carter has had an up-and-down season, running for 452 yards and four touchdowns on the ground through 11 games while adding 15 catches for 150 yards and a pair of scores through the air as well. His final opportunity to boost his regular season numbers will come when the Spartans host Rutgers in the team's season finale on Saturday.

The concerning bit for Carter is the admirable play by his new backfield-mate Kayron Lynch-Adams, as the former UMass transfer eclipsed 100 yards on the ground, adding a touchdown as well. Despite the lack of production, however, Carter received the larger workload, out-touching his counterpart 20-9 on the day. Both running backs will likely continue to get their share of touches moving forward, though Lynch-Adams' performance will likely earn him more opportunities moving forward.

Impact Interim head coach Harlon Bennett indicated after the game that the staff didn't feel comfortable putting Carter back in following his departure. Impact Carter logged fewer than 17 carries for the first time this season as the Spartans offense completely sputtered in this loss. The redshirt sophomore running back has now struggled with his efficiency over each of the past three weeks, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry over this span. Graduate senior Jaren Mangham was the team's only other running back to log any carries in this contest with one, so it's likely that this limited rushing output was a symptom of their anaemic offense. Carter did match his season high for receptions, and he's now caught 17 of 26 passes through eight games in 2023.
