Turner, Baker and the Louisiana Tech defense help the Bulldogs beat Nicholls 25-17

Jack Turner and Blake Baker each threw a touchdown pass to help Louisiana Tech beat Nicholls 25-17 in the season opener for both teams
SEPTEMBER 1ASSOCIATED PRESS
Solo Lewis - Catches TDLewis caught two passes for 36 yards and a touchdown versus Nicholls on Saturday.
ImpactLewis had all of two catches last season, and neither was a touchdown. So, if nothing else, this season is already an improvement for him.
AUGUST 31ROTOWIRE
Mike Jackson - Finds end zoneJackson caught three passes for 76 yards and a touchdown Saturday against Nicholls.
ImpactThis is Jackson's first collegiate touchdown. Last season, as a redshirt freshman, he only had 12 catches. Most of La Tech's catches from last year came from players no longer on the roster, though, so opportunity abounds to step up.
AUGUST 31ROTOWIRE
Jimmy Holiday - Rushes for TDHoliday caught two passes for 33 yards against Nicholls on Saturday, but he also ran the ball four times for 15 yards and a score.
ImpactAfter starting his college career at Tennessee, Holiday played at Western Kentucky last season. He only had 20 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns in that high-flying offense, though, which is not encouraging.
AUGUST 31ROTOWIRE
Marquis Crosby - Limited in return to actionCrosby ran nine times for 44 yards and lost a fumble against Nicholls on Saturday.
ImpactCrosby carried the ball all of one time last season due to an undisclosed injury. In 2022, though, he ran for 917 yards and nine touchdowns. This was not a remarkable game, but he did average 4.9 yards per carry. Maybe Crosby just needs to get back up to speed.
AUGUST 31ROTOWIRE
Blake Baker - Struggles when called into actionBaker ended up playing most of Saturday's game against Nicholls after Jake Turner left with an undisclosed injury. He went 12-for-24 for 207 yards, one touchdown, and two intercept...
ImpactBaker, a redshirt freshman, was making his collegiate debut, and he did it without much prep. Even so, these numbers are not great given the competition. If Turner is healthy next week, he'll be back under center. If not, Baker may play against NC State, and it likely won't go well.
AUGUST 31ROTOWIRE
Jack Turner - Early exit SaturdayTurner was forced to exit early during Saturday's contest against Nicholls State, Matt Belinson of the Ruston Daily Leader reports.
ImpactTurner took a trip to the medical tent after taking a hit during the first half of the game. After returning from the locker during halftime, the 6-foot-5 quarterback was observed not wearing his helmet while fellow signal-caller Evan Bullock took snaps.
