Impact Recurring foot problems limited Barnes during his 2023 season, one in which Gavin Sawchuk established himself as Oklahoma's primary option at running back. Before then was 2022, a year during which Barnes logged 116 carries for 519 yards (4.5 averaged per carry) and five touchdowns. Barnes will look to replicate more of his 2024 output, though Sawchuk's emergence will not make it any easier for the former.

Impact Sawchuk logged a breakout season during 2023. However, it was that year's second half in which he found his stride. That half's last five games included Sawchuk recording 86 carries for 617 yards (7.2 averaged per carry) and six touchdowns. Compared to 2023, 2024 will be his first year in which he is a clear-cut No. 1 for Oklahoma. So perhaps this year, Sawchuk can improve from his 2023 season, just as long as he is healthy.
