Impact Ashford started against Akron and played well, tossing for 243 yards and two scores while adding 133 yards and a score on the ground. However, now that LaNorris Sellers' ankle is healthy once again, Ashford will resume his role as the backup in Columbia.

Impact Ashford played last week against LSU in place of the injured Sellers in an extremely tight game. He finished 2-for-4 passing for 42 yards. He also played against Kentucky, but only threw one pass in that game. Now, he's in line to start in an out-of-conference tilt in which the Gamecocks should have little trouble handling business with Akron.

Handles relief duty in loss Ashford was 2-for-4 passing for 42 yards during Saturday's 36-33 loss versus LSU. He also had 11 rushes for 11 yards.

Impact Ashford came into the game during the second half to replace an injured LaNorris Sellers (ankle) after going down on a hit. The redshirt freshman quarterback was not relied upon to throw the ball much but completed two of his four total attempts. Sellers is expected to be fine and is considered probable to suit up in Saturday's matchup against Akron but should he be unavailable, the young signal-caller would likely get the start under center.
