Malikhi Miller - DNP vs. Sacramento StateMiller (undisclosed) did not play during the Spartans' game Thursday against Sacramento State.
ImpactUntil the Spartans have Miller part of their depth chart, he is expected to be out indefinitely. However, he could be available for the Spartans before they have him charted.

Justin Lockhart - Scores in openerLockhart brought in four of seven targets for 42 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's 42-24 win over Sacramento State.
ImpactAfter missing the 2023 season with an arm injury, Lockhart was solid in his return, making four catches including an eight-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Lockhart posted 36 receptions for 578 yards and a score in 2022, though he was surpassed on the depth chart by Nick Nash last year, who out-targeted him 16-to-7 on Thursday. Still, it was encouraging to see Lockhart involved in the offense after he was sidelined for nearly a calendar year -- the 6-foot-3 receiver should see a larger role as the season progresses.

Floyd Chalk IV - Two scores in openerChalk IV notched 18 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns during Thursday's 42-24 win over Sacramento State. He also caught his lone target for 17 yards.
ImpactAfter a quiet start to the game, Chalk IV salvaged his day with a huge fourth quarter, rushing for a pair of scores including a 22-yard scamper to ice the Spartans' victory. Chalk IV was expected to share running-back duties with Jabari Bates after joining the team as a transfer from Grambling State, where he rushed for 696 yards and nine touchdowns last season. However, Chalk IV wound up out-carrying Bates 18-to-6 in the opener, indicating he's likely the preferred option going forward.

Emmett Brown - Sharp in openerBrown went 20-for-34 passing for 298 yards, three touchdowns and one interception during Thursday's 42-24 victory over Sacramento State.
ImpactAfter turning the ball over on his first two drives, Brown seemed to settle in as the game went on, leading the Spartans to a second-half comeback. Brown earned the starting job in San Jose over Walker Eget in the offseason, after joining the team as a transfer from Washington State. While it was an encouraging debut for the 5-foot-10 quarterback, Brown will face a tougher task next week when the Spartans open conference play on the road versus Air Force.
AUGUST 30ROTOWIRE
Nick Nash - Huge game to open yearNash brought in 10 of 15 targets for 170 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday's 42-24 win over Sacramento State. He also added a 26-yard passing score.
ImpactIt was a tremendous start to the season for Nash, who got the Spartans on the board with a 24-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter before throwing a touchdown to Jacob Stewart on a trick play in the second. Nash would add a second scoring grab in the second half. The senior wideout certainly seems to have gained the confidence of sophomore quarterback Emmett Brown -- Nash saw more than twice as many targets as any other receiver. Nash, who decided to return to the Spartans after entering the transfer portal early in the offseason, led the team with 728 yards and eight touchdowns on 48 receptions last year.
