Healthy once again Thompson (shoulder) has recovered from season-ending shoulder surgery he required in October of 2020 and is set to be the team's starter for their season-opener against Stanford on... Impact Thompson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the team's third game of the season last year, which forced the Wildcats to take away Will Howard's redshirt as he was immediately thrust into the starting role for the remainder of 2020. The team has already indicated that Thompson is the clear-cut starter at quarterback, but head coach Chris Klieman hasn't ruled out using Howard at times this season. Howard started seven games in Thompson's absence, throwing for 1,178 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. It's unclear what the exact plan will be to utilize Howard but the Wildcats face a favorable scenario with two quarterbacks that have starting experience and intend to figure out a way to get Howard into action at times.
