Romello Brinson - Three grabs in Week 0Brinson gathered in all three targets for 17 yards during Saturday's 29-24 win over Nevada.
ImpactBrinson's three catches were tied for tops in SMU's wide receiver room on Saturday. It was a curiously slow day for the Mustangs' offense, especially for wide receivers and running backs. Tight end RJ Maryland wound up being the biggest receiving threat for SMU. Still, Brinson should continue to be featured in the wideout rotation.

Roderick Daniels Jr. - Most productive SMU receiver in winDaniels hauled in all three targets for 28 yards during Saturday's 29-24 win over Nevada.
ImpactDaniels' three catches for 28 yards won't exactly jump off the stat sheet, but he was still the Mustangs' most productive wide receiver. Tight end RJ Maryland was the big receiving threat in Week 0, significantly outpacing the production from any Mustang receiver.

RJ Maryland - Explodes in Week 0Maryland totaled eight receptions (on 10 targets) for 162 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 29-24 victory versus Nevada.
ImpactWhile the rest of the SMU offense was inconsistent all night, Maryland was essentially unstoppable, especially in the fourth quarter. When quarterback Preston Stone needed a big play, more often than not he targeted his 6-foot-4 tight end. Maryland displayed an impressive ability to make plays down the field, including a diving catch in the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. SMU is littered with dangerous receivers, but Maryland proved he's no slouch either.

Jaylan Knighton - Unable to get going vs. NevadaKnighton tallied four carries for eight yards and reeled in 2 of 3 targets for 26 yards during Saturday's 29-24 win over Nevada.
ImpactKnighton was bottled up to the tune of eight yards rushing and 26 yards through the air, but perhaps more alarming is how seldom he was used. His four carries were outpaced by both of his backfield mates, Brashard Smith and LJ Johnson Jr. His receiving acumen does add an element to his game, but it was a curious performance for a tailback who was expected to lead SMU's backfield this fall. If the Mustangs' continue to use a committee-like approach, Knighton's value could drop significantly.

LJ Johnson Jr. - Bottled up SaturdayJohnson Jr. totaled nine rushes for 19 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 29-24 win over Nevada.
ImpactJohnson couldn't get much of anything going on the ground, and his touchdown run was a one-yard scamper coming on the heels of an extremely demoralizing penalty against Nevada that set up first-and-goal from the one yard-line. Johnson wasn't alone, however, as SMU's running backs struggled to find consistent creases all night in Reno. Johnson finished as the Mustangs' second-leading rusher, and should continue to be part of what was a committee approach moving forward.
