Out for remainder of season Phommachanh (undisclosed) is out for the remainder of Massachusetts' 2024 season, Garrett Cote of the Daily Hampshire Gazette reports.

Impact Phommachanh will finish his 2024 season with career-best numbers in passing yards (1,590) and passing touchdowns (eight). What mostly separated the quarterback's 2024 season from his others was what he did in the run game. Phommachanh ran 107 times for 317 yards and three touchdowns, finishing this year with over 10 TDs total.

Leaves game with injury Phommachanh (undisclosed) was taken out of UMass' game against Mississippi State in the second half and didn't return, per Johnny Depin of the Daily Collegian.

Impact Phommachanh completed 6 of 13 passes for 49 yards and an interception before being knocked out of the game and unable to return. His replacement, Ahmad Haston, didn't fare all that better, tossing for 25 yards on 4 of 5 passing. Phommachanh should be considered questionable against Liberty after the Minutemen take a bye in Week 11.

Impact It was a nice rebound game after the contest against Missouri (Oct. 12) where Phommachanh did not register a touchdown while getting sacked three times and intercepted once. The Minutemen take on Mississippi State next on Nov. 2. The Bulldogs defense is near the bottom in the country against both the pass and the run, but the Bulldogs have faced three of the top 10 teams in the nation.

Struggles against tough Missouri Phommachanh completed 12 of 22 passes for 132 yards and one interception during Saturday's 45-3 defeat versus Missouri. He also had eight rushes for negative one yard.

Impact It was the second worst outing for the senior this season. Ironically, Phommachanh's worst outing came where the Minutemen also only scored three points in the 34-3 loss to Buffalo (Sept. 14) with 121 passing yards and an interception. The senior also had his worst game on the ground as he was sacked three times. Phommachanh will have a chance to rebound in the next contest on Oct. 26 against FCS Wagner.

Impact Phommachanch continues to excel under center this season. The senior is on the verge of having his best season. He already has the most touchdowns in a season with seven. Phommachanch only needs 228 passing yards to surpass last season's career best (1,507 passing yards in 2023).

Impact Phommachanh continues to show his dual threat ability, but he seems to be more effective running the ball than passing. The senior will have a tough test on Oct. 7 against Northern Illinois. The Huskies defense ranks top 10 against the pass and top 20 against the run in the country.

In addition, he is more than halfway in topping his season mark in passing yards. Phommachanh has 844 passing yards so far this season. In 2023, the senior collected 1,507 passing yards. The senior will have a tougher time on Sept. 28 against Miami (Ohio) whose pass defense is top 40 in the country.

Struggles in loss to Bulls Phommachanh was 14-for-29 passing for 121 yards and one interception during Saturday's 34-3 loss against Buffalo. He also had nine rushes for two yards.

Impact Phommachanh was looking to add to his stats against Buffalo especially on the ground. The Bulls had given up 255 yards on the ground the previous week against Missouri. The senior had 101 total rushing yards the previous two games, but Buffalo kept a lid on Phommachanh in the pocket. The senior was sacked by Buffalo three times and has been sacked 14 times already this fall. Phommachanh could have a good week against FCS Central Connecticut State on Sep. 21.

Impact The senior completed 26-of-40 pass attempts for 259 yards and ran 22 times for 44 yards. The issue though is the five sacks against the Rockets defense. In all, Phommachanch has been sacked 11 times in the first two games. He could easily continue to pile up the yardage in the next game, Sept. 14, against Buffalo. The Bulls gave up 518 total yards in the 38-0 loss last week to Missouri.

Accurate Despite Loss Phommachanh was effective in percentage, completing 20-of-30 pass attempts, but it was for only for 177 yards in the Minutemen's 28-14 loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday.

Impact In addition Phommachanh led Massachusetts in rushing yards with 57 on 16 carries against Eastern Michigan. His rushing output against Eastern Michigan, is 12 yards short of his season best in a career. The senior ran 11 times for 69 yards in 2021 for Clemson. This is his second season as the Minutemen's starting quarterback. In 2023, he logged 1,507 yards passing yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Healthy, getting extra reps Phommachanh (knee) was spotted getting extra reps following a full practice Monday, Tony Catalina of Pro Football Network reports.

Impact Phommachanh was practicing back in early August, but this news only reinforces the fact that he'll play in the Minutemen's season opener against Eastern Michigan. The 6-foot-4 quarterback returns as the starter under center for Mass, logging 1,507 yards passing yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions in the 2023 campaign.

Impact Phommachanh missed spring ball with a knee injury, but appears to be a ready to roll in practice for UMass. Impact The junior did not help his case if Carlos Davis (abdomen) would be healthy enough to return for the Minutemen's next game, Nov. 18 at Liberty. If it is Phommachanh or Davis under center, either should be putting up the ball against a Flames defense that is in the bottom quarter of the country against the pass that allows on average two passing touchdowns per game.

Headed to UMass Phommachanh announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to UMass, joining the program as a graduate transfer from Georgia Tech.

Impact UMass marks the third stop for Phommachanh, who began his career at Clemson in 2019 and spent three years with the program before joining Georgia Tech ahead of the 2022 campaign. After failing to challenge for the starting quarterback job at Clemson, Phommachanh was expected to have a clearer path to the top of the depth chart in Georgia Tech, but that never materialized during his sole season in Atlanta. Before entering the portal in December, Phommachanh didn't see the field until the Yellow Jackets' final two contests of the season, during which he completed two of five pass attempts for 13 yards and an interception while rushing 15 times for 56 yards and two scores. Phommachanh arrives at UMass with two years of eligibility remaining and should get a chance to compete for the Minutemen's starting job along with incoming FCS Western Carolina transfer Carlos Davis and holdover Brady Olson.
