D'Wan Mathis - Opener pushed back Mathis and the Owls' season opener versus Rutgers has been moved back from Thursday due to bad road conditions following Hurricane Ida, Keith Sargent of NJ.com reports.
Impact Mathis will have to wait a little longer to make his debut under center for the Owls after being named the starting quarterback following spring practice. He should provide a bit of running ability in addition to his passing efforts and will aim to improve on his 40.0 completion percentage and 1:3 TD:INT ratio at Georgia last season.

Impact After Re'Mahn Davis transferred to Vanderbilt in the offseason, the Owls had an opening atop the depth chart at running back, and Saydee was able to secure the job over Illinois graduate transfer Ra'Von Bonner and senior Tayvon Ruley. Impact Duncan was handed an indefinite suspension in late November for an unspecified violation of team rules, but he's apparently in good standing with the program entering the 2021 season. Even so, Duncan -- who attempted two passes as a true freshman -- faces an uphill battle to receive playing time, given that he's behind at least starter D'Wan Mathis and Lynch on the depth chart. The Owls haven't indicated who among Duncan, Re'al Mitchell or Mariano Valenti will open the season as the team's third quarterback.

Impact Mitchell still has plenty of eligibility remaining but doesn't look to really be in contention to land the starting gig for Temple even after Anthony Russo transferred to Michigan State following D'Wan Mathis' transfer in from Georgia. Considering Mathis is even earlier in his college career, it may be tough for Mitchell to find a starting role with the Owls barring injury or poor performance from Mathis.

Impact After transferring from Florida to Temple in January, Clement was hoping for a big role at running back. Clement is away from the team and there are no details as to when the running back is set to return. The former four-star recruit from 2018 is currently third on the Temple running back depth chart behind Tayvon Ruley and Ra'Von Bonner. Clement will need to return to practice soon and make a good impression if he hopes to see the field regularly this season.
