Impact According to an earlier post by Duarte, Mathis suffered the knee injury during a non-contact drill Wednesday. The injury is a torn ACL, which explains his surgery being season-ending. In terms of Houston's running game, Parker Jenkins and Stacy Sneed are expected to pick up the slack with Mathis out. Further down Houston's depth chart are Re'Shaun Sanford and Sherman Smith (foot).

Adds first career touchdown catch Mathis accrued five carries for 22 yards and reeled in both of his targets for 28 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 25-24 overtime victory versus Baylor.

Impact Mathis' touchdown reception was the first in his career as he has hauled in just 20 catches in his 26 collegiate games. It was also his first score of the season. The West Virginia transfer has not had a big role in the offense to date. Maybe this score and the first conference win will lead to more work moving forward. Houston will play Cincinnati next week.

Impact Mathis was able to record his third touchdown of the season despite averaging just 2.0 yards per carry. It's worth noting that CJ Donaldson was forced out of the game with a head injury. If Donaldson is forced to miss time, Mathis will split carries with Justin Johnson who is another impressive young back for the Mountaineers. West Virginia is on a bye next week before hosting Baylor on Oct. 13.
