Gerald Green - Claims starting halfback role Green will open as the Week 1 starter for Troy, per its first two-deep of the season.

Impact Green beat out Damien Taylor and Jordan Lovett for the top tailback spot. The former ECU Pirate ran for just 101 yards last season, but was far more productive the three years prior with Georgia Southern. In his final season of eligibility, he'll look to finally be the unquestioned top back in his backfield.

Goose Crowder - Named starting quarterback Crowder has been named the Trojans' starting quarterback, Josh Boutwell of The Troy Messenger reports.

Impact Troy needed someone new under center in place of Gunnar Watson, who entered the 2024 NFL Draft. Little was known about Troy's quarterback status until Wednesday, when the Trojans selected Crowder to be their No. 1 beginning from Aug. 31 against Nevada. The junior's collegiate experience is 17 completions for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Matthew Caldwell - Part of Troy's roster Caldwell is part of Troy's 2024 roster.

Impact Caldwell, currently a 6-foot-4, 212-pound junior has transferred to Troy from Gardner-Webb. 2023 was his first year to have logged more than 1,000 scrimmage yards, and he also recorded eight touchdowns along with said yardage. Caldwell will compete against Goose Crowder, Tucker Kilcrease and Caleb McCreary for quarterback snaps.

Damien Taylor - Slated to be part of committee Taylor is expected to be part of a committee in Troy's backfield, Josh Boutwell of the Troy Messenger reports.

Impact Taylor is part of a running back room that needs to replace the absurd production of last year's leading rusher in the Sun Belt, Kimani Vidal. "I think we'll attack what was lost by attacking it with a group. We'll have to do it by committee and let those guys earn the opportunities to get carries," Troy head coach Gerad Parker said. This suggests that despite Taylor's standing as the top halfback in the room, he'll likely split his workload with tailbacks such as Gerald Green and Jarris Williams. A backfield-by-committee in Troy could certainly threaten Taylor's fantasy value if he's not an every-down back.

Chris Lewis - Will not play during 2024 Lewis (leg) will not play for the Trojans during 2024, Pete Thamel of ESPN reports.

Impact Instead of playing college football as part of the 2024 Trojans, Lewis will be a student assistant for them. This is because of a cancer diagnosis, surgery and subsequent treatment he is getting for osteosarcoma. Lewis sitting out the Trojans' 2024 season is an unfortunate result for them, who largely benefited from his previous output, including 32 receptions for 735 yards and 10 touchdowns he logged during 2023.
