Impact Keene was the Knights' top returning quarterback from the 2021 campaign after completing 63.3 percent of his attempts for 1,730 yards, 17 touchdowns and six interceptions to go with one score on the ground as a true freshman, but Plumlee, a transfer from Ole Miss, was likely viewed as a potential upgrade over Keene due to his elite athleticism and rushing ability. Before converting to wide receiver late in his career at Ole Miss to make room for eventual NFL third-round draft pick Matt Corral, Plumlee started eight games at quarterback as a true freshman in 2019 and accounted for 16 total touchdowns and 1,023 rushing yards. Plumlee will likely need to show more proficiency as a passer to hold down the starting job for the balance of the campaign, as Keene represents a proven alternative that Malzahn could turn to if things go south with the Ole Miss transfer.

John Rhys Plumlee - Anointed starting quarterback UCF head coach Gus Malzahn announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that Plumlee will open the season as the Knights' starting quarterback.

Impact Plumlee, an Ole Miss transfer, beat out incumbent Mikey Keene for the top spot on the depth chart. Though the athletic, six-foot, 200-pound Plumlee saw most of his action at receiver last season at Ole Miss while eventual third-round draft pick Matt Corral served as the Rebels' starting quarterback, Plumlee saw extended action under center early in his college career. During his time in Oxford, Plumlee completed 53.8 percent of his 158 throws for 6.2 yards per attempt and 5:3 TD:INT while carrying 188 times for 1,189 yards and 12 touchdowns. His rushing ability in particular should make him an appealing fantasy asset in what should be an up-tempo UCF offense.

Timmy McClain - Commits to UCF McClain has announced his commitment to Central Florida for the 2022 season, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Impact McClain has announced his commitment to UCF just a few days after entering the transfer portal. The 6-foot-1 sophomore appeared in 11 games for South Florida in 2021, throwing for 1,888 yards (145-of-262), five touchdowns and seven interceptions. McClain also added on 238 yards and four scores on the ground. It is unclear who will take on the starting role for the program in 2022, with Mikey Keene, John Rhys Plumlee, and McClain all likely to have a chance at starting.
