Matthew Sluka - Will redshirt 2024 season Sluka announced Tuesday via social media that he will use a redshirt and sit out the remainder of UNLV's schedule this season. Impact In his post, Sluka cited "certain representations that were made" after he enrolled at UNLV not being upheld as his rationale for stepping away for the rest of the season. A fifth-year player who spent the first four seasons of his collegiate career at FCS Holy Cross before transferring to UNLV, Sluka will have a sixth and final year of eligibility to use in 2025 and will likely enter the transfer portal when the window for transferring reopens Dec. 9, according to Mike Grimala of the Las Vegas Sun. The 6-foot-3 signal-caller helped lead UNLV to a 3-0 record through his first three starts of the season, completing 21 of 48 pass attempts (43.8 percent) for 318 yards, six touchdowns and one interception while adding 253 yards and another score on the ground. UNLV will likely turn to Hajj-Malik Williams or Cameron Friel to take over as its new starting quarterback beginning with Saturday's game versus Fresno State.
