Robert Briggs Jr. - Will miss entire season Briggs has been ruled out for the entire 2024 season, Trent Wood of The Deseret reports.
Impact Briggs suffered the leg injury in the Week 1 contest against Robert Morris, and he won't return for the rest of the campaign. He has already undergone surgery, though, so he's slated to start working on his recovery process very soon. Briggs was expected to play a significant role in Utah State's offense as part of a veteran and proven running back duo with Rahsul Faison. Instead, Jonathan Baird and Corbin Cottle are expected to have larger roles out of the backfield going forward.

Spencer Petras - Viewed as day-to-day Petras (ankle) is listed as day-to-day heading into Saturday's game against USC, The Aggship reports.
Impact Petras left in the second quarter of the Week 1 win over Robert Morris with a sprained ankle and was unable to return. There haven't been a lot of reports during the week on the status of his health, though it's possible the team provides some information Friday. If Petras is unable to go, Bryson Barnes will be the starter.

Impact Faison split work with Robert Briggs on Saturday, as was the case for most of last season, though the senior Faison did ultimately out-carry Briggs by a slim 12-to-9 margin. While his total output is likely to be limited while in a committee, Faison is likely the top option in Utah State's backfield after rushing for 736 yards on 118 carries last season.

Impact As was the case last season, Briggs split carries with Rahsul Faison to open the 2024 campaign. However, Briggs was the more efficient back Saturday, leading the team in rushing yards despite having three fewer carries than Faison. Perhaps most notable was Briggs' usage in the passing game -- he's already set a new season high in receiving yards after catching just six passes for 38 yards last year.

Impact It was a quiet day for Royals until the fourth quarter, when he hauled in a 21-yard touchdown from Bryson Barnes to put the Aggies ahead 33-14. It was an up-and-down day for Utah State's passing offense overall, with Barnes taking over for an injured Spencer Petras (undisclosed) in the second quarter. Expectations will remain high for Royals in his senior season after he broke out with 1,080 yards and 15 touchdowns on 71 receptions last year.

Impact After totaling just six catches for 139 yards in his first three seasons at Utah State, White broke out as a big-play threat Saturday, hauling in a 57-yard touchdown in the first quarter before adding a 53-yard score in the second half. It's certainly unlikely that White will surpass Jalen Royals as the Aggies go-to option, though the 5-foot-10 wideout looks to have earned a significant role out of the slot.

Impact Barnes was shaky through the air Saturday, completing just 52.4 percent of his passes while throwing an interception after taking over for Spencer Petras (undisclosed), who left with an injury in the second quarter. However, Barnes did complete a 53-yard touchdown pass to put the Aggies ahead inn the third quarter before adding a 63-yard rushing score in the fourth. The junior quarterback joined Utah State after throwing for 1,572 yards. with 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions at Utah last year. If Petras can't suit up next week, Barnes would have a tough starting assignment against a USC defense that held LSU to 20 points in their opener.
