ImpactEven in an easy matchup, this is the way you want a player with upside to start the season. As a freshman he had 550 yards and as a sophomore he had 691 in the compressed time of 2020. Every game might not be this good for Cowing, but he is an intriguing player in a conference that offers a lot of easy matchups.

Ronald Awatt - Finds end zoneAwatt rushed 11 times for 74 yards and a touchdown against NMSU on Saturday.
ImpactThis is a nice start to the season, but Awatt only had 42 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns in 2020. Granted, this was after switching over from being a defensive back during a strange offseason. Nevertheless, Awatt is maybe third on the depth chart, second at best, and not every matchup is this easy.

Deion Hankins - Rushes for TDHankins rushed 11 times for 50 yards and a score Saturday against NMSU.
ImpactLast year as a redshirt freshman Hankins impressed with 592 yards and nine touchdowns on 121 carries. The expectation was that he'd be in for a bigger role in 2021. While this is not a great start, the Miners got off to an early big lead against the Aggies which probably cut into Hankins' touches. No UTEP player had more than 11 carries in this game.

Gavin Hardison - Throws TD in season openerHardison went 11-for-16 for 249 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against NMSU on Saturday.
ImpactHardison got the nod as the starting quarterback for the Miners prior to this game, and while he wasn't that active he was largely efficient in an easy win for the Miners. UTEP actually has some weapons offensively this year, and Hardison has an easy game next week against Bethune-Cookman.
