D.J. Jones - Set to spearhead backfield Jones is set to lead the Cowboys' backfield with Harrison Waylee slated to miss significant time, per Ryan Thorburn of Pokes Insider.

Impact Jones spent four seasons at North Carolina, but saw his involvement with the offense dip as an upperclassman. In 2023, he appeared in six games but didn't notch a rushing attempt or a reception. He transferred to Wyoming for another shot at a role at tailback, and that's exactly what he'll get in place of the injured Waylee.

Harrison Waylee - Slated to undergo surgery Waylee is set to undergo knee surgery and will miss time, though head coach Jay Sawvel believes he won't miss the entire season, according to Alex Taylor of WyoSports.

Impact Waylee will undergo surgery to get a scope on his left knee, and a more established timetable for his return will be determined following the procedure. Waylee rushed for a career-high 947 yards in 2023, and in his absence, Jamari Ferrell, Sam Scott and DJ Jones are all slated to have more prominent roles, with Ferrell likely assuming the starting role.
