WD's from THE PLAYERS Morikawa has withdrawn from THE PLAYERS Championship with a back injury, PGA TOUR Communications reports.

Impact Morikawa appeared to tweak his back warming up to hit his tee shot on the par-5 11th, his second hole of the day. He had his physio come out and take a look at him before ultimately deciding that he would not be able to continue. It's a brutal break for Morikawa who was playing some of his best golf in years and had a great chance to win this prestigious championship. It's also a terrible break for all those that backed Morikawa in fantasy, as he was the most popular player in virtually all formats this week. Hopefully this is not a long term issue for Morikawa and he will be able to return to the golf course soon.

Solo fifth at API Morikawa finished solo fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational after posting an 11-under cumulative score.

Impact Morikawa finished his opening round in a flurry with an eagle on the par-5 16th followed by back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 to end with a six-under 66 score. He couldn't maintain that level of success over the final three days of the tournament, and while he was in striking distance of the top of the leaderboard Sunday, he wasn't able to make the sustained climb needed to catch longtime leader Daniel Berger and eventual winner Akshay Bhatia. Morikawa ranked seventh in the field in SG: Approach, T9 in both driving accuracy and SG: Off-the-Tee, T11 in GIR and 13th in SG: Putting. Thanks to his latest string of Tour performances (highlighted by his victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February), Morikawa sits atop the FedExCup Standings heading into THE PLAYERS Championship next week. He's made the cut in five of six outings at THE PLAYERS, with his T10 in 2025 being his best finish at TPC Sawgrass.
