T16 after win last week Matsuyama closed with a four-under 66 on Sunday to finish in a share of 16th place at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Impact Matsuyama set a PGA Tour record last week in his win at The Sentry shooting 35-under-par, but he couldn't quite continue that form in Honolulu. He was 30th or worse in all strokes gained categories, except putting where he was 18th. That comes after one of the best putting weeks of his career in Maui, so that's certainly encouraging if Matsuyama continues to putt like this. He won't be in the field for The American Express next week, but Matsuyama should be in the mix the next time he tees it up.

Sets PGA Tour scoring record in win Matsuyama won The Sentry by three strokes after shooting a PGA Tour-record 35-under-par in a 72-hole event.
Impact Matsuyama simply could not be stopped this week. His birdie on the 72nd hole was enough to just best Cameron Smith's previous PGA Tour scoring score-to-par record of 34-under, which he set at Kapalua as well back in 2022. Matsuyama ranked second in SG: Approach, third in SG: Putting and third in scrambling for the week. Given how well his ball-striking and short game is, when Matsuyama putts well he is going to be very hard to beat. This was PGA Tour win No. 11 for the 32-year-old who is hoping that this kicks off one of the best year's of his career. Matsuyama is in the field for the Sony Open next week, as he is hoping to double-dip in Hawaii.
