Earns Rookie of the Year honors Dunlap was named the 2024 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, the PGA Tour announced Thursday. Impact Going into 2024 Dunlap would have never thought in his wildest dreams that he would earn PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors. He was going into his sophomore season at Alabama looking to help the Tide compete in the SEC. Everything changed when he got a sponsors invite to play in The American Express in January after winning the U.S. Amateur the year prior. Dunlap put on a clinic in Palm Springs, which even included shooting a 60 in round three to propel him to being the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991. Dunlap was faced with the tough decision on whether or not to turn pro and be eligible for all Signature Events the rest of the season, or finish out his collegiate career. Dunlap made the choice to turn pro immediately. It was not easy for him after that as he felt the full grind of what being a PGA Tour pro is all about. That said, he showed his talent by collecting a trio of top-12 finishes at the Houston Open, the Memorial and the Rocket Mortgage, before going an getting Win No. 2 on the PGA Tour at the Barracuda Championship, which was played opposite the Open Championship. That helped Dunlap make the FedExCup Playoffs and reach the BMW Championship, meaning he will be exempt for all 2025 Signature Events. Dunlap's upside is sky high and the soon to be 21-year-old is definitely a player to watch going into next season.
