Trending heading to Augusta McIlroy closed with a six-under 66 on Sunday to finish in solo third place at the Valero Texas Open. Impact Usually when you finish in third place you are a big part of the story on Sunday, but that wasn't the case as Akshay Bhatia and Denny McCarthy ran away from the field this week, finishing nine shots clear of McIlroy. Given that situation, McIlroy put together an excellent bogey-free round on Sunday to emerge as the best of the rest. He has admittedly struggled since a January win in Dubai, but this puts McIlroy right back on track heading to Augusta National where he will once again try to complete the career grand slam. McIlroy ranked top-three in San Antonio in SG: Approach and scrambling.
