Brutal lip out ends Players hopes Clark lipped out what would have been a closing birdie at 18 to force a playoff with Scottie Scheffler and ultimately settled for a three-way share of second at The Players Champio... Impact Clark yet again showed up in another big event after winning two Signature Events and a major in the last year. He took command of the tournament going 65-65 through the first two rounds to take a four-shot lead. Clark only managed a 70 in round three where Xander Schauffele passed him and took a one-shot lead into Sunday. Clark had been putting well all week, but did not have the same success on the greens in the final round. Despite that, Clark hung tough but found himself three adrift of Scottie Scheffler in the clubhouse with just three holes to play. Clark nearly made eagle on the par 5 16th, stuffed his tee shot on the par 3 17th and needed only birdie to tie going to 18. He gave himself a good look to force a playoff, but unfortunately the putt just did a brutal lip out and left Clark heartbroken. The 30-year-old will certainly be motivated to beat Scheffler at The Masters next month after having finished second to him these last two weeks.
