Officially shut down for season Triple-A Toledo placed Lange (lat) on its full-season injured list Friday.

Impact The transaction confirms that the surgery Lange underwent this past week to address a right lat avulsion was indeed season-ending. Though the right-handed reliever is currently on the minor-league IL, the Tigers could recall him and place him on the major-league 60-day IL if the team needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster at any point. Per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Lange is optimistic that he'll be back to full health for the start of spring training in 2025.

Optioned to Triple-A The Tigers optioned Lange to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Impact A day after allowing four earned runs in one inning during Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Lange will be sent to Triple-A in order to get back on track. The 28-year-old owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.77 WHIP alongside a 21:17 K:BB through 18.2 innings this season, and he figures to return to Detroit's bullpen once he starts turning in promising results with Toledo. In the meantime, Mason Englert will come up from Triple-A to take Lange's place.

Control issues persist in loss Lange (0-1) allowed five unearned runs to take the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Twins. He walked two and retired two batters via strikeout.

Impact Lange didn't allow any hits or earned runs, but it still wasn't a great performance. Coming on in the top of the 12th inning with a runner on second, the righty walked the first hitter he faced. Later in the frame, Lange walked in a run with the bases loaded. The big blow came a few batters later, when a Zach McKinstry fielding error with the bases loaded led to three more runs. While Lange sits with a solid 2.08 ERA, free passes continue to be a big problem, as he now has seven of them this year in just 4.1 innings. Lange will need to cut down on the walks if he wants to earn trust in high-leverage spots. He also tossed a whopping 36 pitches in the uneven appearance, so he likely won't be available for the nightcap.
