Claimed by Boston
The Red Sox claimed Speas off waivers from the Astros on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Speas was DFA'd by the Astros last week, and although he'll remain in Triple-A with his new organization, he will reclaim a spot on a 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty has accumulated a gaudy 10.38 ERA and 2.26 WHIP through 21.2 total innings in the minors while spending time with three different organizations. Barring a significant improvement, a return to the majors is unlikely.

Sent packing
Speas was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Monday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact
Speas allowed three runs with a 3:6 K:BB over six innings this spring. Walks have always been an issue for the 26-year-old and they could prevent the 26-year-old from receiving high-leverage looks for the White Sox even as he has better stuff than most of their other relievers.

Dropped from 40-man
The Rangers designated Speas for assignment Saturday.
Impact
After giving up three runs over two innings during a brief major-league stint in July, Speas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock, and the selection of Matt Bush from the minors will now push Speas off the 40-man roster. Promoted to Triple-A
Speas was promoted Tuesday to Triple-A Round Rock, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact
Speas earned the level bump after delivering a 0.64 ERA with 47 strikeouts across 28.1 innings this season at Double-A Frisco. He hadn't allowed a run there since May 21. The 25-year-old did not pitch professionally in 2022, instead opting to take a job as a high school baseball coach, but he reported to the minor-league side of Rangers camp this spring and is now just one step away from reaching the majors.
