Impact Simmons got aboard with a walk in the third inning, then moved to second base on an Anthony Bemboom sacrifice bunt. Simmons then picked up his first stolen base of the year by advancing to third, and he scored on David Fletcher's infield single. It was a solid show of speed for Simmons, who was playing in just his third game back from a sprained left ankle. The shortstop is hitting .250 with an RBI, four runs scored and a steal in seven contests this year.

Impact Simmons was reinstated from the injured list Friday and immediately slotted into the starting lineup, but he rested Saturday and is in line for more rest Tuesday. The schedule is part of the team's plan to make sure the veteran stays healthy after missing time with a sprained ankle each of the last two campaigns. The issue has limited Simmons to only five games this season, during which he has gone 5-for-20 (.250) with a double, an RBI and three runs.

Ankle improving Simmons said his ankle is beginning to feel better after twisting it while running through first base in Monday's loss to the Athletics, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Impact Simmons provided encouraging news to reporters, saying that he feels much better than when he suffered a similar-looking ankle injury last season. Given that Simmons is already beginning to improve, it does not seem out of the question for the slick-fielding shortstop to return within a few days of when he is eligible to come off the injured list on Aug. 7.
