The 25-year-old can play both corner infield spots and could receive ample playing time at third base for the Nationals.

With Jose Tena (thumb) dealing with a fingernail issue, it's possible that Chaparro sees his first opportunity at third base with the big-league club.

Traded to Nationals Chaparro was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Nationals on Tuesday in exchange for Dylan Floro, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact Chaparro became a prospect of note with the Yankees from 2019 through 2022, but he had a down year in 2023 at Triple-A (90 wRC+, .247/.331/.444 slash line) and joined the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal this past offseason. The 25-year-old corner infielder did much better in his second year at Triple-A, slashing .332/.403/.564 with 19 home runs and a 17.6 percent strikeout rate in 95 games in the Pacific Coast League. He could get an audition with the rebuilding Nationals down the stretch.
