Activated, not starting Friday Vaughn (hand) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees after being activated from the 10-day injured list, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Impact Vaughn was sidelined the past couple weeks due to a bruised right hand, but he's back with the White Sox ahead of Friday's contest. The 24-year-old won't immediately rejoin the starting nine but should quickly reclaim an everyday role after posting a .283/.367/.566 slash line through his first 16 games of the campaign.

Impact While it's not yet clear whether Vaughn will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's matchup against the Yankees, he's getting close to returning after missing two weeks with a right hand injury. He was productive during his two-game rehab stint at Triple-A Charlotte, going 2-for-7 with two homers, three runs, two walks and a strikeout. Even if the 24-year-old isn't activated Friday, he'll likely be available Saturday against the Yankees if he feels good.

Impact Vaughn made the second appearance of his rehab stint Thursday and went yard in the first and fifth innings. He also started in right field -- he served as designated hitter in his first game -- a sign that he is moving closer to a return from the injured list. Vaughn is eligible to be activated at any time, though the club could opt to have him play a few more games with Charlotte.

Impact Vaughn recently received a cortisone shot for the bruised right hand that resulted in his placement on the 10-day injured list last week, and the injection apparently had the desired effect. Manager Tony La Russa said Vaughn will play a couple games in Charlotte, and if all goes well, he could come off the IL as soon as Friday.

Impact Vaughn landed on the 10-day injured list Thursday after missing five games with a bruised right hand, and he's now received a cortisone shot to address the swelling.
