Re-entering rotation Monday DeSclafani is scheduled to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Pirates, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Reds bypassed DeSclafani for a start this past weekend in favor of Tejay Antone, but the former will re-enter the rotation as Cincinnati kicks off its four-game series against Pittsburgh with a twin bill. Given that the Reds moved Sonny Gray (back) to the 10-day injured list Sunday, DeSclafani should be in a good position to stick in the rotation when Cincinnati pares its starting staff back down to five men beginning Wednesday. DeSclafani hasn't lived up to the sleeper potential he held heading into fantasy drafts, posting a 7.20 ERA and 1.76 WHIP through six starts.

Impact The 30-year-old hasn't completed five innings during a start since Aug. 8 and has surrendered 20 runs over those four outings, and he won't be taking the mound this weekend in St. Louis. Tejay Antone will receive another start in his place for the Reds, though DeSclafani could still start during Monday's doubleheader against the Pirates.

Early exit in win DeSclafani didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Pirates, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He struck out two.
Impact The right-hander appeared headed for his second win of the season after a four-run third inning by the Reds, but after DeSclafani walked Bryan Reynolds to lead off the fifth he got the hook and fell short of qualifying. DeSclafani threw 83 pitches (49 strikes) in this one but hasn't been able to complete five innings in any of his last four appearances. He'll carry a 7.20 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 16:14 K:BB through 25 IP into his next outing Friday in St. Louis.

Impact The right-hander had no feel for the strike zone after returning from the paternity list over the weekend, throwing only 48 of 92 pitches for strikes. When he did get the ball over the plate, bad things tended to happen -- DeSclafani was scored upon in all four of his frames, and his last pitch left the yard for a grand slam. The disastrous outing inflated his ERA by two whole runs, and he'll take a rough 7.71 mark into his next start Saturday in Pittsburgh.
