Reinstated from COVID IL Kay (undisclosed) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday and remains with Triple-A Buffalo, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Impact Kay landed on the COVID IL a couple weeks ago and will now rejoin Buffalo's roster after clearing the health and safety protocols. The 26-year-old last saw game action at Triple-A on Aug. 4, and he surrendered six runs over 3.2 innings during that outing.

Moves to COVID-IL The Blue Jays placed Kay on the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday.

Impact Even though Toronto optioned Kay to Triple-A Buffalo in July, his move to the COVID-19 IL will still allow the big club to temporarily remove him from the 40-man roster. The Blue Jays will use the open roster spot to bring back reliever Julian Merryweather (oblique), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Assuming he isn't experiencing severe symptoms of the virus, Kay could have a chance to make it back in action for Buffalo before the end of the season, but he'll face an uphill battle to rejoin the big club's active roster at any point in September.

Impact Kay was sent to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, but he'll technically join the minor-league club on a rehab assignment since the injury occurred in the majors, and teams can't option injured players.
