Kyle Nelson - Unable to get out of jam Nelson blew the save Tuesday against the Athletics. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out one over one-third of an inning.
Impact The Diamondbacks threw Nelson into a tough spot Tuesday, having the left-hander step in for Kevin Ginkel with the bases loaded and two outs, but Nelson was unable to work out of the jam. On his second pitch, Ryan Noda took Nelson yard for a game-tying grand slam, scoring Brent Rooker, Aledmys Diaz and Carlos Perez to bring the score to 8-8. Although Nelson was able to bounce back and get Ramon Laureano to go down swinging, the damage had already been done and the Athletics would eventually take the game in walk-off fashion in 12 innings.

Impact Walker wasted no time getting the Diamondbacks on the board, swatting a two-run homer off Kyle Muller in the first inning and moving into a tie for 10th place in most home runs in MLB this season. The right-handed slugger ended up reaching base in each of his first three plate appearances, hitting an infield single in the third before being walked in the fifth. Though Walker had registered one hit in his last 16 at-bats, he has maintained strong plate discipline by drawing seven walks in that span. After exploding onto the fantasy scene with 36 home runs a season ago (160 games), Walker is on pace to beat those numbers in 2023 having whacked 10 long balls through 40 games.

Impact Henry struggled to keep the ball in the park Tuesday, being taken yard by Nick Allen and Ramon Laureano for solo home runs in the third and fourth innings. After nabbing a pair of quality starts in his last two appearances, Henry was unable to make it through five innings against the league's fourth-worst scoring offense (3.74 runs scored per game). Henry is tentatively scheduled to take the mound Monday in a road matchup with the Phillies.

Impact Rojas extended a hit streak to five consecutive after enduring a brutal 4-for-35 (.114) stretch from April 23 to May 10. He was much maligned for his defense in 2022, which eventually cost him playing time, but Rojas has shown improvement this season with eight outs above average at third base. At this point, he remains on the strongside of a platoon at third base.

Impact Gurriel's two-run blast in the third was his fifth home run over the last 10 games, tying his output from last season over 121 games while battling a wrist injury. Offseason surgery appears to have been what was needed, as Gurriel is hitting .309/.371/.537 with six home runs and 23 RBI through 37 games.

Merrill Kelly - Fans nine in win Kelly (4-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk over seven-plus innings Monday, striking out nine and earning a win over Oakland.
Impact Kelly cruised through seven innings, allowing just one unearned run with nine punchouts. He then allowed a leadoff homer to Jace Peterson before putting two more runners on base without recording an out in the eighth. Miguel Castro cleaned up the mess to limit the damage. Kelly has posted a strong 30:4 K:BB over his last four starts, giving him a 55:21 mark for the year.
