Ryne Nelson - Hit hard in loss Nelson (1-1) was handed his first loss of the season Tuesday against the Royals, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out three over five innings.

Impact Nelson gave up a season-high 11 hits but was able to keep the ball in the yard after allowing at least one home run in three of his past four starts. The Royals got on the board in the first, fourth and fifth innings with RBI singles and scored their fourth run against Nelson on a sacrifice fly. A positive for the 25-year-old is that he didn't issue a walk after he exhibited command issues his last time on the mound. Nelson has yet to show great consistency in the early going and will carry a 5.33 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 17:8 K:BB over 27 innings into his next start.

Josh Rojas - Returns to lineup Rojas started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Kansas City.

Impact Rojas returned to the lineup after getting Monday off and was back at leadoff. The infielder has slumped of late, going hitless over the last 13 at-bats. With left-hander Cale Yarborough scheduled to throw Wednesday, Rojas could get another off day while Evan Longoria mans the hot corner.

Gurriel has been a near-everyday starter for the Diamondbacks and could see more opportunities in the outfield after the team optioned Jake McCarthy to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Impact Carroll already has 10 stolen bases in 25 games, second in MLB behind only Atlanta's Ronald Acuna (13). It was the third time he's recorded multiple steals in a game. Carroll, who started the season in the bottom half of Arizona's order, has been entrenched at the third spot and thrived over the last seven games, going 11-for-27 (.407) with five walks, four steals and six runs scored. Impact McCarthy had quite a bit of fantasy buzz leading into the 2023 campaign following his mini breakout in 2022, but he heads to the farm having slashed just .143/.229/.238 with one homer and two steals through 22 games (70 plate appearances) this season for the Diamondbacks. Emmanuel Rivera has been recalled in a corresponding move, though it should be Pavin Smith who benefits most from McCarthy's demotion.
