Alek Thomas - Dropped in the order Thomas batted seventh and went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 5-0 win over the Giants.

Impact Thomas had settled in near the top of the order from mid-June to mid-August but has batted in the lower half the last six games. He has just two hits over 19 at-bats (.105) since the drop, which followed a 16-game stretch in which he limped to a .193/.246/.281 slash line.

Corbin Carroll - Promotion to MLB coming Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said Thursday that Carroll will make his major-league debut before the end of the season, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Impact Carroll looks ready, as evidenced by his .316/.430/.590 slash line over parts of three minor-league seasons including a 1.047 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A this year. The general manager stressed he wants Carroll to stay in the majors once he arrives while noting his amount of practical experience is relatively low. "I would be hard pressed to go back and find a player who has probably climbed through the system as a high school kid in 130 games (and be) on the precipice of the big leagues," Hazen said. Carroll has just 625 plate appearances in the minors since being drafted out of high school.

Stone Garrett - Swipes first bag Garrett went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in a 5-3 victory Thursday in San Francisco.

Impact Garrett stayed hot in his second big-league game, singling and stealing a base in the first and scoring in the third following a double. After hitting fifth and playing left field in his debut, the 26-year-old batted second in the lineup and served as the designated hitter Thursday. It was his first stolen base in the majors after swiping 15 bags in 103 games for Triple-A Reno. He's 4-for-8 with three doubles, an RBI and a stolen base so far for Arizona.

Impact Gallen faced the minimum through the first six innings, erasing the two singles allowed with double-play groundballs. The 12 punchouts set a new career-high for the 27-year-old and it was the first time in his big-league career that he exceeded 7 innings in a start. Gallen has been dominant since the All-Star break with four of his last six starts lasting seven innings or more while allowing no runs. During that span, he's gone 5-0 and posted a 0.92 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 43:7 K:BB in 39 innings. His next start will likely be in the middle of next week in Kansas City.

Impact After being called up from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, Garrett made his MLB debut as Arizona's starting left fielder and came through with his excellent showing at the plate. He'll be rewarded for his efforts with a second straight start in Thursday's series finale, this time manning the designated-hitter spot while batting second. The Diamondbacks don't have any players truly standing in the way of Garrett playing on an everyday basis, so as long as he continues to perform well with the bat, he could have a fairly clear path to earning steady starts.
