Taylor Widener - Exits start with apparent injuryWidener was removed in the second inning of his start Sunday against the Rockies with an apparent groin injury, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. He recorded five outs...
ImpactThe Diamondbacks reinstated Widener from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's series finale, but the right-hander may not have been 100 percent recovered from the groin strain that had kept him on the shelf since April 22. Arizona likely will provide an update on Widener after the contest, but if he did in fact aggravate the groin injury, another stint on the IL could be in the forecast.

Peter Lambert - Resumes mound workLambert (elbow) was recently cleared to resume throwing bullpen sessions, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
ImpactLambert will advance to the next phase in his rehab program following July 2020 Tommy John surgery after he experienced no setbacks while throwing off flat ground. The right-hander should gradually increase the intensity of his bullpen sessions over the next few weeks before testing himself against hitters in live batting practice at some point in June. The 24-year-old will have an outside chance to return from the 60-day injured list late in the second half of the season, but the Rockies likely won't be counting on him to fill a rotation spot.

Kyle Freeland - Set for season debut TuesdayFreeland (shoulder) is on track to start Tuesday against the Mets, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
ImpactThe 28-year-old covered six innings during a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, and he should remain on a five-day schedule to start Tuesday. Freeland has been sidelined by the shoulder strain since late March and will have a tough time securing the win in his season debut with Jacob deGrom (side) also poised to return from the injured list for the Mets.
