Chas McCormick - Getting sixth straight startMcCormick will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactMcCormick wasn't expected to be in store for a major role after being called up from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, but he'll draw a sixth consecutive start Sunday after going 6-for-18 with a double, a walk, three RBI and three runs. However, with Jake Meyers back from the paternity list and with Kyle Tucker likely to resume playing the outfield soon after being limited to designated-hitter duties in his first two starts since being activated from the injured list Friday, McCormick's playing time should soon fall by the wayside.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Jon Singleton - Sitting in series finaleSingleton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactSingleton had started at first base in both of the Astros' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll give way to Victor Caratini while righty Ryne Nelson takes the hill for Arizona in the series finale. With an OPS of .694 since the All-Star break, Singleton hasn't done enough to fully solidify a strong-side platoon role, though he's still likely to see the majority of the starts at first bae down the stretch.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Mauricio Dubón - Excluded from lineup SundayDubon (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactDubon remains day-to-day due to the jammed left thumb, which he sustained in Friday's 8-0 win in the series opener. According to MLB.com, manager Joe Espada said he hopes to avoid using Dubon off the bench Sunday, noting that consecutive days out of the lineup coupled with a team off day Monday should provide sufficient time for the utility player to heal up from the injury heading into Tuesday's series opener versus the Athletics. Though Dubon has taken on a near-everyday role since the beginning of August while moving between multiple positions, his playing time could become more inconsistent following the recent return of Kyle Tucker from the injured list.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Jordan Montgomery - Shakes off leg contusionMontgomery (lower leg) made a relief appearance in Friday's 8-0 loss to the Astros, giving up four earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three.
ImpactMontgomery was lifted from his prior appearance in Monday's 11-6 loss to the Dodgers after being struck in the lower right leg with a comebacker, but he was diagnosed with a bruise after subsequent tests returned negative. After a few days of rest, Montgomery was available out of the bullpen, where he'll likely remain for the rest of the season so long as Arizona's current five starters are healthy. Expect Montgomery to continue working mostly in lower-leverage spots.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Randal Grichuk - Stuck in short-side platoon roleGrichuk is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
ImpactGrichuk started in left field in each of the last three games, with the Diamondbacks facing left-handed starting pitchers on all occasions. He's been on the bench, however, for each of the Diamondbacks' three matchups with right-handed pitchers since Lourdes Gurriel (calf) landed on the injured list Tuesday. Grichuk looks as though he'll be ticketed for the short side of a platoon in left field with Pavin Smith until Gurriel returns from the IL.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Josh Bell - Back in lineup SundayBell will start at first base and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the Astros.
ImpactBell was on the bench for the first two games of the series, but he'll move back into the starting nine for the finale while Ketel Marte and Christian Walker get the evening off. Though Marte should eventually reclaim a full-time role at second base after being eased back in the lineup at designated hitter in the previous two contests, Arizona likely won't have room in the lineup for Bell against right-handed pitching while Walker and Joc Pederson occupy first base and the DH spot, respectively. Bell should at least replace the lefty-hitting Pederson in the lineup when the Diamondbacks face left-handed pitching.
SEPTEMBER 8ROTOWIRE
Luis Guillorme - Draws back into starting nineGuillorme will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Astros.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Guillorme had been on the bench in each of the last three contests while the Diamondbacks opposed left-handed starters, but he'll draw back into the starting nine Sunday versus Astros righty Justin Verlander. Despite his inclusion in the lineup, Guillorme's opportunities to play against righties will likely be more limited moving forward following Ketel Marte's return from the injured list.
