Michael Brantley - Aiming to be ready for springBrantley (shoulder) said Wednesday that he should be ready to resume full baseball activities by spring training, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

ImpactThough Brantley is set to become a free agent this winter, is turning 36 years old in May and is working back from August surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder, he isn't yet ready to retire. Brantley's power production has trended down in recent seasons and he's probably a better fit at designated hitter than in the corner outfield at this stage of his career, but his elite contact skills should be enough for him to secure a one-year deal on the open market.

Stefan Crichton - Makes return before season's endDouble-A Amarillo activated Crichton (undisclosed) from its 60-day injured list Sept. 13 and assigned him to Triple-A Reno.

ImpactCrichton had been sidelined all season with the unspecified injury before joining Reno two weeks ago. Through his four appearances in the Pacific Coast League, Crichton has given up four runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.1 innings.

Yainer Diaz - Optioned to Triple-ADiaz was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday.

ImpactDiaz was subsequently placed on the Astros' taxi squad, so he will still hang around the team in case he's needed in the near future. The young backstop has one hit and a walk over just nine plate appearances this season. He will be replaced on the major-league roster by Jake Meyers, who was called up Thursday as a corresponding move.

Jake Meyers - Recalled from minorsMeyers was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday.

ImpactMeyers spent an extended period of time in Houston earlier this summer, recording a .557 OPS over 149 plate appearances. Since being shipped to Triple-A toward the end of August, he's slashed .337/.450/.543 over 111 plate appearances. He will likely serve as a depth piece in the Astros' outfield as they close out the season. In a corresponding move, Yainer Diaz was optioned to Triple-A and placed on the major-league taxi squad.

Mark Melancon - Earns 18th saveMelancon went one inning and picked up the save against the Astros on Wednesday.

ImpactMelancon's number was called in the bottom of the 10th and he proceeded to retire all three batters he faced on a total of six pitches. The 37-year-old reliever has been solid for the Diamondbacks this month to the tune of a 2.70 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 10 appearances. It was his first save since Aug 17.

Chas McCormick - Homers, grabs three hitsMcCormick went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

ImpactMcCormick was a thorn in Zac Gallen's side all night, first reaching on an infield single in the third inning before launching a two-run home run off the right-hander in the fifth. The left fielder also reached on a bunt single in his final at-bat and has now hit safely in six straight games. He's hitting .391 over that stretch with a homer, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.
