Zac Gallen - Live batting practice goes wellGallen (shoulder) felt good following a live batting practice session Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
ImpactIt was revealed last week that Gallen dealt with shoulder issues over the offseason, rendering him questionable for Opening Day. He doesn't appear to be significantly delayed in his buildup process, so while a trip to the injured list to open the season remains in play, it might be a short one.

Caleb Baragar - Claimed by ArizonaBaragar was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com
ImpactBaragar picked up seven holds for the Giants in 2021 and posted a 1.57 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 23 innings across 25 relief appearances. The Diamondbacks have a strong group of late relievers in Mark Melancon, Ian Kennedy and J.B. Wendelken, but Baragar should compete for a late-inning role if he continues to perform well in 2022.

Oliver Pérez - Joins Arizona for campPerez signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-roster invitee Monday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe 40-year-old lefty is looking to spend his 20th career season in the majors. He threw just 3.2 scoreless innings for Cleveland last season before heading to Mexico to pitch for Toros de Tijuanam where he posted a 38.0 percent strikeout rate and a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings of work. He should have a shot to carve out a role in the Arizona bullpen, though it's unlikely to be a high-leverage one.

Jackson Kowar - Solid in first spring startKowar allowed a run of three hits and struck out four over two innings in Sunday's 11-10 win over the Diamondbacks.
ImpactThe decrease in walks is the most encouraging takeaway here -- Kowar issued 20 free passes in 30.1 major-league innings last season. He struggled to an 11.27 ERA and 2.08 WHIP with the Royals last season, but he posted a strong 3.46 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 80.2 innings with Triple-A Omaha. Kowar is competing for a back-end spot in the rotation during spring training, though he may begin the year in Omaha if the Royals opt to carry five starters early on.

Josh Rojas - Starts at 3BRojas went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a second run scored in Sunday's spring-training game against the Royals.
ImpactRojas started at third base and batted second in his Cactus League debut. The versatile infielder is the leading candidate to start at third base, and he's approaching the competition like it's his to lose, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The Diamondbacks' leadership team have talked about bringing in an established third baseman, which would move Rojas back to a utility role, but no player addition is imminent. However it shakes out, Rojas is poised to garner 500-550 plate appearances, as he did in 2021.
