The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed veteran infielder Elvis Andrus to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league spring training

Elvis Andrus - Links up with ArizonaAndrus agreed to a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Sunday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

ImpactAndrus spent last season with the White Sox, and he was unable to secure a major-league contract for 2024 after he posted a .251/.304/.358 slash line with six homers and 12 steals in 112 contests. The 34-year-old should compete for a roster spot as a backup middle infielder.

ImpactMcCarthy, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base Friday, has been a contributor the last two seasons, most notably for his speed. He stole 23 bases in 2022 then 26 last season. The 25-year-old outfielder appears to be on the bubble. The offseason additions of Joc Pederson and Randal Grichuk (ankle), plus the re-signing Lourdes Gurriel, makes it a crowded outfield. Arizona can also use Jace Peterson (wrist) as a depth outfielder in a pinch.
