Taylor Widener - Scratched as precautionWidener was experiencing cold-like symptoms and did not report to Thursday's game against the Padres as a precaution, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
ImpactWidener was lined up to start Thursday's game but was instead scratched and placed on the injured list. It's unclear whether Widener was placed on the COVID-19 injured list -- in which case he can be activated once clearing protocols -- or the 10-day injured list. If the latter, he will be out until at least Aug. 22, meaning the team will likely have to fill his rotation spot for at least one turn.

Humberto Castellanos - Recalled to ArizonaCastellanos was recalled by the Diamondbacks from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
ImpactCastellanos has thrown 15.2 innings with the big-league club this season, primarily as a reliever. He's capable of throwing multiple innings out of the bullpen and may be asked to do so Thursday with Matt Peacock drawing a spot start. Castellanos has produced poor ratios at hitter-friendly Triple-A Reno this season, but has a fairly strong 16.8 K-BB%.

Nick Ahmed - Sitting ThursdayAhmed is not in the lineup Thursday against the Padres.
ImpactAhmed has remained a consistent presence in the lineup, even as the team has begun to skew playing time towards younger players. He's also hit well since the calendar flipped to August, maintaining a .263 average while driving in six and scoring five runs across 10 games. However, Josh Rojas will start at shortstop and Josh VanMeter enters the lineup while playing second base Thursday.

Matt Peacock - Spot start ThursdayPeacock will start Thursday's game against the Padres, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
ImpactTaylor Widener was scratched and placed on the injured list with an undisclosed issue prior to his start Thursday. Peacock will take the hill initially in Widener's place. Though Peacock has primarily pitched out of the bullpen this season, he did throw 4.2 innings as a bulk reliever on Aug 6. He may not be able to pitch deep enough for a chance to earn the win but should be able to toss multiple innings.

Taylor Widener - Scratched, placed on injured listWidener was placed on the injured list with an undisclosed injury Thursday and will not make his scheduled start.
ImpactThere was no reason given for Widener's placement on the injured list so there's no timetable on how long he may be sidelined. He's served as a regular in the team's rotation since early July, allowing 18 earned runs in 22 innings across five starts. Humberto Castellanos was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.

Tyler Beede - Dealing with back painBeede was placed on the injured list Thursday due to lower back pain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactBeede was placed on the injured list earlier Thursday, though the reason was originally undisclosed. His timeline remains unclear, but he could return by Aug. 19 if he progresses quickly enough. Beede has struggled since being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 6.92 ERA and 2.08 WHIP across 13 innings.
