Opts for Tommy John surgeryAvilan (elbow) has elected to undergo Tommy John surgery, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ImpactAvilan was diagnosed with a torn UCL on Saturday, but he took several days to decide whether to undergo surgery or whether to simply take some time to rest. Since he'll opt for surgery, Avilan will miss the remainder of the 2021 season and could also miss the start of the 2022 campaign. Prior to the injury, Avilan posted a 12.60 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in five innings across four relief appearances.

Goes yard SundayKelly went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Nationals.
ImpactKelly's fourth-inning blast was his third in the last four games and gives him five RBI during that stretch. The catcher has reached base safely in all but one of his 11 appearances and is slashing .400/.537/.767. This was Kelly's second start behind the plate with Madison Bumgarner on the hill, and it was by far the left-hander's best.

Bats leadoff SundayRojas started at second base, batted leadoff and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and two additional RBI in Sunday's 5-2 win over Washington.
ImpactRojas went deep on starter Paolo Espino as the first batter of the game and came around to score two additional runs after a single and a walk. The two hits matched his season total entering Sunday's contest. This is the version of Rojas that showed up in spring training, and the one the Diamondbacks were missing through the first three weeks of the regular season. He had been a lineup staple through the first portion of the season, playing both shortstop and second base, but lost the everyday role after starting 2-for-27. With Tim Locastro (finger) and Ketel Marte (hamstring) sidelined, the Diamondbacks need someone to hit leadoff. That could be Rojas if he continues to hit.

Knocks three hits in debutHeath started in center field, batted eighth and went 3-for-4 in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Nationals. He was also caught stealing.
ImpactHeath cleared intake protocols after being acquired from the Royals on Saturday and was needed immediately to replace the injured Tim Locastro (finger), who landed on the injured list. With Ketel Marte (hamstring) also on the injured list, Heath is expected to get regular at-bats in center field, against right-handers at least. The left-handed hitting outfielder started against righty Paolo Espino on Sunday and has little MLB track record (one at-bat) against southpaws.
