Likely to hit third in 2021Freeman said Tuesday that he's tentatively planning on opening the 2021 season as the Braves' No. 3 hitter, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ImpactFreeman started out last season in the three hole, but he ultimately moved into the No. 2 spot for his final 17 starts of the abbreviated campaign. The first baseman posted a monstrous 1.202 OPS as the No. 2 hitter compared to a .982 OPS batting third, but that difference can probably be chalked up to a small sample of plate appearances more than anything else. Whatever spot he occupies, Freeman should be an elite source of counting stats in a potent Braves lineup while also giving fantasy managers a solid foundation in both batting average and on-base percentage. Like many established stars around the league, Freeman is being eased into game action this spring, with his Grapefruit League debut coming Friday against the Twins, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

Shut down for two daysGrotz (elbow) will be shut down for two days and re-evaluated later in the week, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
ImpactGrotz left Monday's game against Atlanta with an elbow injury. Initial tests didn't reveal any serious injuries, but the Red Sox will be cautious with him for now given that it's still early March. Grotz was always a long shot at best to break camp on the big-league roster given that he's merely a non-roster invitee, so any time lost to an injury only makes his chances even slimmer.

Robbed of oppo shot MondayPache was denied a home run to right field in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox by an over-the-fence catch, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe 22-year-old is considered the favorite to win the starting center field job this spring based on his exceptional defense, but Pache has shown signs of emerging as a useful offensive player as well. He hit 12 homers in 130 games in the high minors in 2019, offering a glimpse of his power potential, but the real key to his offensive development will be improvement in his ability to make consistent contact.

Hitting off teeBogaerts (shoulder) will take 30 swings off a tee Tuesday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
ImpactReports emerged Monday that Bogaerts would be shut down for a few days due to a sore right shoulder, though an MRI revealed no serious injuries. As it turns out, he's only being shut down from throwing. He's not yet ready for game action, but the fact that he's still able to swing a bat supports the idea that there's no cause for serious concern here.
