James Wood - Should swing soonThe Padres expect Wood (wrist) to resume swinging a bat soon, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactWood hasn't played for Low-A Lake Elsinore since April 9 due to a sore right wrist, but the organization is confident his injury isn't a significant one. According to Sanders, scans conducted on Wood's wrist have already ruled out a hamate bone injury, so he'll likely just need to wait for the soreness and swelling to subside before he's cleared for full baseball activities. The 19-year-old is viewed as one of the top lower-levels talents in the Padres' farm system.

MacKenzie Gore - Gets another startThe Padres list Gore as their probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Reds in San Diego, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactWith both Blake Snell (groin) and Mike Clevinger (knee) set to remain on the injured list during the upcoming week, Gore will receive at least one more turn through San Diego's rotation. The 23-year-old lefty didn't make many bats miss (three strikeouts) in his MLB debut Friday, but he did well to limit a potent Atlanta offense to two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings while taking a no-decision.

Mike Clevinger - Rehab outing planned for TuesdayClevinger (knee) is on track to make his second minor-league rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A El Paso, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactTuesday's start could be the final one of Clevinger's rehab assignment, especially if he's able to build on the solid two-inning, five-strikeout performance he turned in for Low-A Lake Elsinore on Thursday. Clevinger tossed 31 pitches in the start for Lake Elsinore, so the Padres will presumably want to see him reach the 50-pitch mark Tuesday to put himself in consideration for a return from the 10-day injured list during the final week of April.

Blake Snell - Scheduled for side sessionSnell (groin) is in line to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThough Snell wasn't able to avoid the injured list due to his left groin injury, he could be in store for a minimum-length stay on the shelf if his throwing session Tuesday goes according to plan. However, with Snell due to miss a second straight turn through the rotation Wednesday versus the Reds, rookie MacKenzie Gore will pick up at least one more start.

Austin Adams - Receiving second opinionAdams (forearm) recently underwent an MRI and is scheduled to receive a second opinion on his injury during the upcoming week, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactAdams was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with an official diagnosis of a right forearm strain, but that he's getting a second opinion on the injury suggests that season-ending Tommy John surgery could be on the table for the reliever. Even if Adams is able to avoid a procedure to address the injury, he'll almost certainly be sidelined for more than the minimum 10 days.

Ronald Acuña Jr. - Beginning rehab assignment TuesdayAcuna (knee) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ImpactAcuna has been on the 10-day injured list since the start of the regular season as he continues to recover from ACL surgery that forced him to miss the end of the 2021 season. The team has been optimistic that he'll be able to return in late April, and Tuesday's rehab assignment signals that he has a chance to meet that timetable. The 24-year-old will presumably require several rehab appearances before he's cleared to rejoin the major-league club, but he certainly seems to be trending toward his 2022 debut.

Matt Beaty - Second straight startBeaty will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against Atlanta.
ImpactHe'll stick in the starting nine for the second game in a row while top right fielder Wil Myers (thumb) remains on the bench for the third consecutive contest. If Myers' thumb issue results in him landing on the injured list, Beaty could end up settling into a strong-side platoon role in right field with either Jurickson Profar or Jose Azocar.
